Wednesday Witness: Chasing Perfection

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8

Well Reader, I’ve never had this problem. Why? Because I know I have problems. Never once in my life have I stopped and thought “Wow! I’m perfect!”

Now before I go on I’d like to give a clarification about this new theme Chasing Perfection. First I’d like to acknowledge that no person is perfect (100% guarantee). Only one person in the history of the entire world has been perfect (and it’s not you!) However we believers have been called to imitate the perfection of Christ. This might sound like a contradiction. This might sound impossible. This might sound like I’m rambling.

Honestly I’m not.

The themes and topics I cover in these blog posts are focused on concepts that I struggled (or struggle) with. Perfection is one of these. While I’ve never thought myself perfect – far from it – I’ve always lived with a “perfectionist” mindset. Another contradiction? No – just a flawed way of thinking. I’m always so focused on doing everything flawlessly that when something inevitably falls apart I fall apart as well. The weight of my judgement for myself is staggering. I focus on “fixing” my broken pieces instead of focusing on Christ.

God says in 2 Corinthians 12:9a My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

How can God’s power be made perfect through our human weaknesses? I didn’t believe this for many, many years. Eventually I took to the Bible to try to disprove this theory. In the next four weeks I’ll be writing to you about my findings and what it truly means to chase perfection.

Yours in Christ,

The Wednesday Witness
